  • Category description
Both the census of population and housing, and the agricultural census, are obligatory surveys, conducted pursuant to Act of censuses. At the same time, they are largest statistical undertakings implemented not only in Poland and globally. The implementation of such projects requires full mobilisation on the part citizens and the State. Censuses constitute important moments in the life of nation, as when the State asks its citizens “how many of us are there?”, “who are we?” or “how do we live?”, as well as enquires about major information related to the functioning of society. According to international organisations, censuses belong to the greatest organisational undertakings which mobilise whole nations in times of peace. They should be governed by the idea of professional achievement, which significance to the way citizens perceive their state.
  • Group description
Data are presented as of 20th May 2002 by territorial division on 31st December 2002. Population actually living includes persons with permanent residence (usually registered for the permanent residence) and present at the time of census; to be exact - at the critical moment of census, and absent at the moment of census, disregarding the place of residence and the period of absence; people temporarily staying for more than 2 months. It refers to persons living permanently in another place (are registered for permanent residence there), and at the moment of census are temporarily staying; people from abroad staying temporarily are not included, with the exception of persons living outside their place of residence for at least 12 months - disregarding their place of residence (in Poland or abroad), and people temporarily staying for at least 12 months, coming from another place in the country or from abroad (foreigners). Person's age is presented in completed years. The working age population refers to males aged 18-64, and females, aged 18-59. In this category the age groups of mobility (i.e. 18-44) and non-mobility (i.e. 45-54 for males and 45-59 for females) are distinguished. The non-working age population is defined as the pre-working age population, i.e. up to the age of 17 and the post-working age population, i.e., 65 and more for males and 60 and more for females. NOTE: "masking" (hiding) the data resulted in the necessity of disabling public access to all or some parts listed on the basis of aggregates (powiats, subregions).
