      NameDescription
share of areas under legal protection in total areaThe indicator comprises the sum of areas of forms of nature protection as of 31 December of the reference year: national parks, nature reserves, landscape parks, protected landscape areas, ecological areas, documentation sites and landscape-nature complexes. For calculations we also use data of the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography (GUGiK) concerning the geodesic area of territorial units as of 1 January of the reference year. In the case of landscape parks and protected landscape areas, the area taken into account in the calculations does not include nature reserves or other forms of nature protection located within these areas. From 2005 onwards, the data also include this part of the area of the Natura 2000 network, which is located within the boundaries of the areas under legal protection. In the situation where entities that report data on the area of forms of nature protection are not capable of adjusting them to administrative changes, the index may take on values exceeding 100%. In cases like these, the value of the index has been limited to 100%, which reflects a maximum possible area share of the areas under legal protection in a given territorial unit.
areas under legal protection per capitaThe indicator comprises the sum of areas of forms of nature protection as of 31 December of the reference year: national parks, nature reserves, landscape parks, protected landscape areas, ecological areas, documentation sites and landscape-nature complexes. For calculations we also use data on population as of 31 December of the reference year. In the case of landscape parks and protected landscape areas, the area taken into account in the calculations does not include nature reserves or other forms of nature protection located within these areas. From 2005 onwards, the data also include this part of the area of the Natura 2000 network, which is located within the boundaries of the areas under legal protection.
gmina-established areas under legal protection per capitaThe indicator comprises the sum of areas of forms of nature protection established by a gmina as of 31 December of the reference year, i.e. documentation sites, ecological areas, landscape-nature complexes. For calculations we also use data on population as of 31 December of the reference year.
